Central Islip State Hospital

Central Islip State Hospital's spur was also a turn of the century spur. This spur traveled South off the mainline and paralleled Lowell Avenue for some distance crossing a few hospital roads. Right before Belt Drive, was one of the passenger platforms. After crossing over Belt Drive East, a track came off and went up to the warehouses. The other track continued South and was gradually elevated until cmming up to the Coal Trestle. This was one of the longest of any hospital going quite a ways back. Originally, the spur had another section, which branched off South West. This portion served 2 different Power Plants at one point, and Also having a passenger platform. CISH at one point also had there own Locomotive! A ex PRR 0-4-0 switcher, Central Islip State Hospital # 3. CISH also had a passenger car and baggage car of there own, with bars over the windows. This train would operate between the hospitals. Today not very much of CISH is left, very little rail other then the Row.
