The society is due to hold the national meet in 2013 , which will mark the society's 100th year of existance.

The Society is a non profit organisation , where builders of miniature Locomotives of 3.5" & 5" ride the rails.

Members have built steam tractors , steam lorries , battery operated locomotives , IC race cars.

The Durban Society Model Engineers(DSME) began operating on the south bank of the Umgeni River in1913.

The society is now located in Virginia , Durban North ,Republic of South Africa.

The track is 3.1/2'' & 5'' gauge raised level , using aluminium rail , set in concrete road bed & 300mm(12'') above ground level.



The society has 2 Sweet Pea (0-4-0) steam locomotives & 3 gas powered Loco's , a replica SAR class 35 & 2 , 4-wheelers.

The Society would like to aquire the ground , next to the club ,for the laying of a Ground Level Track, which would incorporate 3.5,5&7.25” gauge .
