Huntsville and Madison County Railroad Authority's ex-Conrail #8923. Note that this number is its former Conrail number and current Huntsville Madison RR number. Oh, this railroad's technical name (legal) is Huntsville and Madison County Railroad Authority, but is often called, labeled and refered to as simply Huntsville/Madison County Railroad. It only owns two loco's, one flat car, and a few track inspection cars that David's ever seen in Huntsville. Of that roster, only #8923 and the flat car are known (by us) to be in working order.
This loco is an SW-7; it is labeled on the loco in fading paint somewhere...
The main line is in the foreground. Between the loco and the building rests the flat car. The building is the main office. Sorry for the lack of quality on some of these--they were my first attempt at scanning and web posting...


Here is the side of the loco. Clearly visible is the word Conrail. Also notice the buckets on the smokestacks to prevent water damage.


Here is the side of the cab. Those letters are made from mail box stickers. The Rail museum in Huntsville has at least one former H&MCRR locomotive; the reporting marks on it are HMRR. The reporting marks on H&MC's other currently held loco are H&MCRR... That loco (photo's below) apparently is not in working order, but used to be. It is the same model as #8923, so perhaps they remove parts from it.
Razor wire and barb wire--keep out.


Ex Burlington Northern, number 527 (for both railroads) rests, perhaps permanently, behind a city maintainance building. This locomotive is parked at the north end of L&N lane--yes, named for the railroad L&N, whos former line H&MCRR operates over (well, part of it).

Number 8923 and the Headquarters building. Also, the flat car with a small tank on it is visible. 100 yards behind the building (and across a street) is the interchange with Norfolk Southern.
