A KCS train on the KCS main, technically still in the KCS yard, but for practical matters, it's just outside the yard. The NS locomotive visible is a leased unit (since returned to NS). The photo was taken from a bridge that crosses the tracks (there are actually three bridges in a row). A few hundred yards to the left is the Black Warrior River--the bridge KCS owns that crosses the river is the longest wooden transportation bridge in the United States, and one of the longest in the world (Ok, ok, we'll get a photo...). Oh, the bridge is MOSTLY wooden, it has a few steel sections... The yard is to the right of the photo.

Three paint schemes, two railroads, one train. The middle unit is another KCS unit that WAS under long term lease to BN. This is also another KCS train on NS tracks... This photo was taken on a dreary day near what NS calls Bryant, a siding and signal--but is actually near the 10th ave crossing and parrallel to 15th street.

A KCS mower is parked on a siding about a hundred yards east of the NS/KCS interlock in Tuscaloosa. It was there for a day, we did not see it operate and we didn't notice any freshly mowed brush near any KCS tracks in town...

A KCS local on the Goodrich branch (I don't know the proper name, Goodrich Lead maybe). This line serves Hunt Oil and Goodrich. It may also serve other industries.

The same train as the above picture. Locomotive 1062 is a "GP-10", a GP-9 that has been rebuilt to a slightly different spec; EMD never actually made a GP-10.

Again, the same train. Here the second locomotive is visible, a KCS locomotive in BN paint. Also note the crappy looking tank cars. These are leaving Hunt Oil, a local refinery that owns Parade gas stations.

Here is another shot of the BN painted KCS locomotives. This is in the KCS Tuscaloosa Yard, the bridge is 15th Street.
