On a Fall day in the year 1850, the Milwaukee Road's first locomotive, coupled to two cars, ran over the first five miles of track of the new railroad between Milwaukee and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The road's growth in the intervening years has been paced by its progress in the development of motive power.
