[TrainWeb Editor's Note: MOKSRAIL was a passenger rail advocacy organiztion that dissolved in 2005. However, this website does feature over 500 photos of Amtrak trains including scenic photos from the Amtrak Southwest Chief and Amtrak Missouri Mules routes. This website also reveals the arguments and historic advocacy efforts made in 2005 to preserve Amtrak routes in the face of government efforts to reduce funding and to eliminate some of Amtrak's routes. Fortunately those efforts were successful and as of 2026, Amtrak has more funding and more route miles than in 2005.]

Nine members met Nov. 19, 2005 and voted to dissolve MOKSRAIL, due to a lack of member participation and the inability to fill officer positions, especially that of president, formerly held by Doug Ohlemeier.

MOKSRAIL is using up its remaining assets to fund replacement batteries for the electric cart at Kansas City Union Station that brings elderly and handicapped to and from trainside. They will also contribute some of the money to the restoration of the Amtrak station in Topeka, KS.

The group has been disbanded but this Web site will remain in place to encourage passenger rail supporters to continue advocating for expanded passenger rail service in Kansas, Missouri and the nation - D.O.

47 groups sign agreement to promote federal investment in a modern, nationwide
passenger rail system (MOKSRail is a signee)

This information will remain prominently displayed on this Web page until the traveling public convinces self-serving politicians that passenger trains are a needed and necessary public transportation expenditure.

Promoting a vision of a revitalized national passenger rail system:
Modern Passenger Trains: A National Necessity; Analysis and Recommendations
The plan, from NARP, contains a wealth of transportation and travel information

"Until the federal government funds a meaningful, modern and relevant system of passenger-train tracks, signals and stations, no comparison between passengers trains and cars or airliners is valid. To be competitive, trains must first be provided with the means of competitive success, as cars and airplanes were." - Amtrak Reform Council

The Myth of Passenger Train Profitability To learn the how the federal government literally built this nation's highways and air transportation systems, read this speech made by Amtrak Reform Council member James Coston. Coston documents the long history of subsidization for air travel, which began at the urging of Orville Wright, who knew that air travel would not take off without federal help. Coston also explains how it is a false notion to believe that there are any "passenger train experts" since the world's leading industrialized country has not had a modern passenger rail transportation system for more than 30 years. A must-read for passenger rail advocates
