A special update.

I appologize for the lack of updates recently, but I hope that the recent announcement of Sunset Coast Excursions' Fall Colors trips helps to explain things. As should be of little surprise to people that I have talked to over the past few years, SCE's series was my brainchild, and as its VP of Operations, I am up to my ears in the corporate doings.

It has been my goal since moving over here to make the railroad more accessible to railfans and others who might be able to enjoy what this rare treasure has to offer, and this is the beginning of that effort. Sunset Coast Excursions is planning three more exciting trips in 2002, one each in spring, summer and fall. Also, we are hoping to begin offering service aboard the Pacific Rose dinner train next May.

SCE will be launching its new website soon, so keep an eye open for more information, which I will naturally be posting on this site. Also, we are now forming and working with another group that will be responsible for trying to save and restore the Tillamook depot, which is presently in a sad state of disrepair.

All of this is very exciting, but very time consuming. As a result, the maintenance of this site has suffered. Rest assured, once we have SCE up and running, things will get better. We still plan on expanding to include all of the coastal branches in Oregon, but it now looks like the timetable for that expansion may be pushed back to next summer. A little more quickly, I hope to be posting a greatly updated trackside guide, which has been in sore need of revision since being written.

One thing is for sure. We haven't given up on the Port of Tillamook Bay's railfans. In my own way, I hope that through Sunset Coast Excursions, we can make it even better to fan the POTB.
