What's New?

Here's a list of recent updates to this site.

Jan. 1, 2004 — Happy New Year! We start this year with a special Photo of the Month Mystery! Check it out and see if you can help solve it! Also, please remember that you can access the Photo of the Month Archives by following the links for 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000 and 1999. Thanks again, and welcome to a new year of the Port of Tillamook Bay Railfan's Guide!

We've also taken the time to update the Fanpix selection again. Sorry for the slow regeneration there.

Dec. 4 — Photo of the month has been updated again. I hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, too!

Nov. 10 — New photo of the month.

Oct. 12 — New photo of the month. Fanpix has been held for this month due to time constraints. Sorry if you were looking forward to it.

Sept. 8 — Beginning of the month, so we've added the requisite Photo of the Month, and a new Fanpix selection. Enjoy.

August 17 — Corrected an error based on outdated information in the rosters page indicating that the 6164 would be retained for parts and would not operate on the POTB. That is not the case, as the unit is in service on the switch job, and is actally running as I type.

August 11 — A late start, but here's a new photo of the month, as well as a new Fanpix photo. Sorry, but business commitments kept me from updating Fanpix last month. Also, I would like to take a moment and introduce the latest page in the group, Luxury Under Glass - The Ultradome Experience. Here, we will feature the luxurious full dome cars built by Colorado Railcar and its predicessors, tracking rosters and featuring a number of photos. Find it on the web at www.trainweb.org/ultradomes, or follow the links. I've also added a couple of photos and modified the car roster page to reflect the recent temporary numbering of Scott Wickert's open air car into the POTB roster.

July 6 — Regular beginning of the month stuff. I won't have time to update Fanpix until tomorrow evening. Also, I have updated the Operatons Page to refelct some recent tweaking in the train schedules.

June 13 — Added a roster page to reflect the fact that another locomotive is now plying the Port rails, that being Curtiss Lumber Co. Heisler no. 2, and it's a genuine steam engine no less! Read up about it on the CLC 2's roster page.

June 2 — Regular beginning of the month updates. New photo of the month, new Fanpix. Sorry, but the last installment of the BN locomotive photo essay is still waiting on photos. It may be posted as early as this evening. (Two updates in one day.... Wouldn't that be something...)

May 12 — Part three of our BN locomotive photo essay is now available for your perusal. Enjoy! Now, it's darn late and I'm going to go to bed.. The final installment will be online on the evening of May 18. See you then.

May 8 — As of today, all of the new BN units have had their BN heralds, etc. replaced with POTB stenciling. I have added numerous photos the roster pages of the following units to reflect the changes: POTB 6113, 6124, 6156, 6157, 6164 and 6196. Also, a new thumbnail of the 6124 is on the roster page. Finally, the 6124 will most likely enter service tomorrow, and its roster page is updated to reflect that.

May 7 — Part two of our BN locomotive photo essay is now online. Enjoy! Part three will be added in the wee hours of May 13. (Sorry about not doing it Sunday as promised, but I'll be in Vancouver, B.C....)

May 2 — It's the first of the month, and you know what that means.... Photo of the month, and a new Fanpix as well. At last our fleet of new arrivals is complete with yesterday's arrival of ex-BNSF 6124. The locomotive is already in Tillamook. (Spotted on it the extra dead line this afternoon myself) Photos are coming soon. In the mean time, I want to introduce a photo essay on the arrival and first service of the ex-BN units. Page 1 is up now, and the remaining four pages will be added each Sunday in May. Look for the next one on May 4.

April 19 — As of yesterday, the 6164 was at Marina awaiting transfer to the Portland and Western, and ultimately to the POTB. By now, it should be at Banks. We've updated its roster page with photos, as well as added the photos promised of the 6156. I was in Seattle yesterday, and ran across the 6124 at Interbay awaiting movement to Lake Yard. Should happen soon. In the mean time, I posted photos of that unit as well. And finally, I've added correct thumbnails for the 6164 and 6156 to the main roster page.

April 16 — 6156 arrived last Sunday, and I have given up on holding out for photos. (I've got five frames left on the roll, and was expecting the other two units, 6124 and 6164, to be right behind it. As luck has it, that isn't the case. But I did get the frame number and direction, so we'll post a meager update for that info at least. Also, thanks to Julie G. again for the frame numbers on the 6124 and 6164, which we have added to their respective roster pages.
Oh yes, one more thing. I don't have any photos yet of the 6124, 6156 or 6164. As many of you have astutely pointed out, the photos on those pages are of the 6126. It looks stupid, I know, but it was done intentionally to help me compose the page and get it posted. Real photos will be substituted as available. Please be patient with me...

April 8 — Thanks to vollunteer editor Julie G., we have posted the corrected builders number and date to the roster page for the 6114. (I built all of the roster pages for the BN units using the one for the 6126 as a base. As you can see, some of the stuff got left over....) We also have a frame number for the 6126.

April 2 — New photo of the month, and also a FanPix update.

March 22 — Work is finally finished on the 6116, and the unit will enter service on tomorrow's coast switcher. We've added the final photos to the 6116's roster page to show it with its POTB lettering. Also, I've replaced one roster photo of the 4406 with a newer, better version.

March 15 — More photos are being added as I get better shots of each. New are photos of the 6116, 6157, as well as a roster of the 6114 in service. Also, an alert that the final three ex-BN locomotives — BNSF 6124, BN 6156 and BN 6164 — are underway to their new home, and should be on Port rails by the beginning of next week.

March 8 — 6139 and 6114 entered service recently. I've added roster shots of the 6139 showing its relettering job, and have added patched photos to the roster pages of the 6116 and 6157. I've also updated the main roster page. More photos are to come soon.

March 1 — It's the beginning of the month, so we'll add a new photo of the month to the front page, and a new photo to the FanPix section.

Feb 27 — Corrected some problems with the server that appear to be user problems, and posted all of the updates from Feb. 15 on. Sorry about the mistakes. Also, a heads up that the 6139 has already been patched, and may very well be placed in service sometime soon.

Feb 25 — 6139 arrived day before yesterday, and I have added photos of it to its roster page. Also, I've added photos of the 6113, 6116 and 6157, all of which arrived today.

Feb. 22 — The 6178 has been patched and relettered, and became the first unit put into service, joining the Coast Switcher consist on the 20th. We've added patched photos of the unit to its roster page.

Feb. 15 — Posted photos of the 6114 on its roster page. The unit is now online.

Feb. 6 — It's the first of the month again, and that means a new photo of the month, and a new installment of FanPix. Also, I'll hint that another BN unit will be arriving soon, and photos will follow shortly.

Jan. 24 — So far, two of the ex-BN units have arrived and are online. We've updated the roster pages for the 6178 and 6196 with photos of the units, as well as confirmations of the frame numbers and other info. More to come very soon, as the units are starting to filter in.

Jan. 11, 2003 — Happy New Year! Updated the photo of the month, archive, and FanPix. Have fun!

Dec. 25 — Merry Christmas. Though they still haven't started to arrive, I've been able to gather a little more accurate information on the 10 new locomotives that should show up any time now. You will find that information in the roster pages. Also, I've added a video review for a recent release from Bates Publishing regarding the POTB. Please note that this will be my last update until Jan. 4 or 5 as I will be in Wyoming. See you all then.

Dec. 12 — Began the process of reformatting the roster pages. This is basically cleanup work from the transition to Dreamweaver for file updating, but also reflects some subtle style changes, and signals some more significant changes that are to come. So far, I have done everything except the leased locomotives. Those will be added later.

Dec. 11 — The Port has acquired 10 new locomotives, and while the units aren't yet on the property, I have updated the Roster Page to reflect the additions. Please be patient, as the photos aren't yet posted. For the most part, the ones in there are dummies for use in composing the page. Real ones will be added as soon as the units arrive.

Dec. 8 — Finished the archive thumbnails for 2002, bringing that section of the site up to date.

Dec. 5 — New Photo of the Month. Also, we introduce the new format for the Archive Pages, which we dabbled with last year. So far, the pages for 1999, 2000 and 2001 are complete. More to follow. Note, we have not yet updated the Fanpix section. That is expected in the next few days.

Nov. 1 —  Photo of the Month update. FanPix updated as well. Also, I updated the information in my personal bio to reflect the birth of my last son, Samuel, on Oct. 19! (Very cute, and doing quite well. Mom's great, too.)

Oct. 7 — Photo of the Month update, as well as a new FanPix on the other site. Also, a feature on a very exciting week we had out here recently. There's lots of photos on the feature, so if you'd prefer to have just the text with links to the images, click here. Enjoy!

Sept 10 — Made some updates to the Roster Page to introduce the RFRX 4202, and recently painted RFRX 4201, which are back on Port rails in infrequent passenger service. Also, I added pages for BN SD-9's 6126 and 6221, which were used on the Karban rock train for about a month or so in 1993.

Sept. 3 — Not your ordinary, run of the mill Beginning of the Month stuff. Sure, there's a new Photo of the Month, but we also roll out a new site — Jody's Northwest Railfan Experience — as a new home for a lot of the eclectic odds and ends that had been cluttering this site, as well as some new surprises. Things like FanPix and the Yakima Valley Trolleys page have found new homes there. (Those of you familiar with the early days of this site may recognize the URL as the original home of the POTB Railfan's Guide.)

August 7 — After curing some connection woes, we have made our beginning of the month updates with a great photo of the month courtesy of Geoff Barnes.

July 8 — Added some more information to the car roster page to reflect some more information that I gathered from close inspection of the cars.

July 2 — Updated the Photo of the Month, and added a new FanPix photo. Also, I have fixed an unbelievable error in the operations page, which I thought had been taken care of long ago. And finally, I have updated the car roster page to reflect the new numbers applied to the four new tank cars, which are now in track sprinkler service between Batterson and Buxton.

June 3 — It's that time of the month again - time for a new photo of the month, and a new FanPix selection. Enjoy! Also, the Port has purchased four new tank cars from the Dept. of Defense, which will be used as track sprinklers in the coming summers. Get the skinny on them in the car roster page.

May 4 — You may think I've become idle and sedentary, but I offer this to change your mind: In addition to the usual photo of the month, I have also added FanPix, a monthly railfan photo section which I am using as a venue for non-POTB related photos that I have been wanting to share. In that same theme, I have also added a feature on the Yakima Valley Transportation Company, an interurban electric railroad in central Washington state that I have also fancied. I have also been working on an updated trackside guide, which I will be unveiling soon. Thanks for your continued support.

April 2 — Added a new photo of the month.

March 26 — Updated the locomotive rosters to include two other previously used locomotives, UP 2021 and DLM 274. Also added a new ballast car to the car roster to reflect the Port's recent purchase of LPN 277.

March 14 — Imagine my horror when I called up the site and realized that I hadn't actually uploaded the new photo of the month.... Duh! That's fixed now.....

March 4 — Added a new photo of the month.

February 7 — Added a new photo of the month. I'm also going to hint that a new photo feature is on the way. Look for it early next week.

January 26 — We've had to make a most regrettable change by embedding credit lines and watermarks in all of our photos. With almost 300 images on this site, this will be an ongoing process.

January 7, 2002 — Happy New Year! I've recovered from the reveries (or more importantly the 70 hour work weeks...) to add a new photo of the month.

December 3 — Beginning of the month update. We also introduce the Washington Park and Zoo Railway page. Fixed an odd glitch in the links on the Archive page.

November 12 — Beginning of the month update. Sorry it is so late, but I plain forgot!

October 21 — News Update. Newsline discontinued.

October 4 — Beginning of the month updates. Preliminary launch of new Sunset Coast Excursions site, and updated version of the SCE trip ad on this site. News update coming soon. (Have a locomotive to sand and paint. Lots of work on that. Sorry.)

September 12 — At long last, I have posted September's photo of the month. Sorry for the delay. Look for a new look on the Sunset Coast Excursions portion of the site as we get it ready for it's official launch.

August 2— Beginning of the month updates. Special update: Sunset Coast Excursions fall colors trip. A special message from the webmaster.

July 5 — Beginning of the month updates.

June 2 — Beginning of the month.

May 16 — Operations update: Changed on duty times to reflect current practice.

May 2 — Beginning of the month.

April 1 — Beginning of the month. Also added new freight gifs on the front page. Car Roster: Added a better photo (finally) of boxcar POTB 004. Video Clips: We've brought back the videos, and will present one each month along with our photos! Check out this great one from Camron Settlemier.
