Metrolink Trip Photos

In lieu of a detailed trip report, these photos represent a trip I took on the Metrolink rail system on January 2, 1998. Along with me are three railfans who had just as much fun as I did! Shot with Fuji 200, Minolta Maxxum 3xi, Sigma AF 28-80mm f/4-5.6.

(43K) Train #14, the Coast Starlight, at Los Angeles Union Station.

(54K) Train #14 departing, Metrolink commuter train arriving, locomotives from train #3, the Southwest Chief, on the right.

(37K) San Diegan train #769 with California equipment arriving.

(50K) From left-to-right are co-railfans Ralph, Mike and Les admiring the beauty of brand new Genesis locomotives pulling the Coast Starlight.

(49K) Head end of train #14. Notice the air hose hanging down in front--the engineer fixed it during his walk-around check.

(39K) An advertisement car for San Diego is appropriately placed in a San Diegan train consist.

(60K) Les, Mike and Ralph and departing Metrlink train with Southwest Chief P42 locomotives on the right.

(81K) Amtrak train #1, the Sunset Limited arrives from Florida. Actually, #1 was being pulled out of the station in this photo. It looks like P40 #833 is in desparate need of a bath!

(57K) Train #3's boxcars are moved to Track #13 for unloading.

(51K) Amtrak switcher ready for its next assignment.

(57K) On board our Metrolink train bound for Lancaster, Ralph poses for the camera.

(48K) Taken at Los Angeles Union Station before departure on a partial cloudy day.

(65K) Mike and Les on the upper level of our Metrolink train to Lancaster.

(59K) Les checking out the scenery just before our arrival in Lancaster.

(75K) The Lancaster Metrolink station.

(44K) Our train pauses while the crew changes ends to head back to Los Angeles.

(64K) The Metrolink engineer's cab doesn't leave much room for our engineer to complete an eight minute lunch break before the return trip to L.A.

(73K) Going over a bridge near Norwalk.

(82K) San Diegan #580 approaches Fullerton. A green signal on the signal bridge indicates the arrival of westbound San Diegan #781.

(52K) San Diegan #580 departs Fullerton with an Amtrak F40PH pushing.

(65K) A westbound freight approaches Fullerton.
