Rusty Rails

Welcome to Rusty Rails, a website dedicated to abandoned and active railroads.

Welcome

Hi and welcome to Rusty Rails!  This site is primarily for sharing information and photographs of abandoned railroads that I have explored.  There will be information from active lines and derailments, but most of the pictures and information will be regarding lines that no longer run trains.  I hope you enjoy your visit to the site, and please come back for updates!

Why this fascination with abandoned railroads?

That's a good question, and I'm not sure that I have the answer.  I would guess that it is a combination of things.  They include an interest in history, a link to the past, and a fascination with what was, and now main pic2is gone. In exploring an abandoned line you never know what will be around the next curve, what artifacts will be found, and what their connection is with history.  As the web site Abandoned Railroads of the U.S. says, each of these former lines has a story of its own.

Abandoned Rail Fans

While the wife thinks this hobby is a little "strange", I know that there are more Abandoned Rail Fans out there and I would love to hear from you!  I'd like to hear about other abandoned lines with iron still on the ground that I could explore within four or five hours drive of Nashville, Tennessee.  I'd also like to see pictures from abandoned lines that are too far away for me to travel to.

Usage of Materials

I will make every effort on these pages to credit web sites or other sources of information used here.  I would ask that you do the same.  Unless otherwise noted, all photographs are property of Rusty Rails.  Please ask permission before using any pictures from this site, other than for computer wallpaper or your personal collection.  Thank you.  I hope you enjoy the site.  Please e-mail comments on the site to zenithfan@aol.com
