Overview
The Ohio &
Indiana Railroad (OHIR) was founded in 1976 from remnants of the Erie
Lackawanna Railroad and has grown to become a prosperous regional
railroad in the heart of America. The Ohio & Indiana
Railroad is a privately owned and managed regional
railroad company operating in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana,
and Illinois. Ohio & Indiana Railroad conducts business
daily with a wide range of customers from small independently owned
companies to several top Fortune 100 companies. Major commodities
handled include parts and finished products for the automotive industry,
various modes of intermodal traffic, corn and grain, ethanol and
gasoline, food products, plastics, paper, scrap metal and recyclables,
and military moves. The Marion Intermodal Terminal provides a
central loading location easily accessible from all over Ohio, southern
Michigan, and eastern Indiana. The Lima Reload Center provides transloading, storage bays and warehousing for a wide variety of
commodities.

USRA and Chessie System agree on terms for Chessie to buy EL east of
Sterling, OH, for $54.5m
- 1976, Apr 1 -
Conveyance Day; Trustees continue to run EL on trackage west of
Sterling, aided by state funds
- 1976, Sep 17 -
EL sells remaining trackage, right-of-way, and equipment to the Ohio
& Indiana Railroad Co
- 1979, Jan 3 -
OHIR obtains trackage rights over CR from Lima to Chicago
- 1986, Oct 23 -
Sale of Fort Wayne Line from Crestline to Chicago by Conrail
- 1986-1988 -
Downgrade and abandonment of most of ex-EL trackage between Lima and Hammond

1989, Mar 27 - Triple Crown Roadrailer terminal constructed in Fort
Wayne, joint project with NS

Purchase of CSX Willard-Mansfield line, 25 miles

Purchase of ex-DT&I trackage from Diann to Springfield from GTW

Conrail operations assumed by NS & CSX

Schneider opens new intermodal terminal in Marion, joint project
with CSX and OHIR
