BNSF El Paso local and UP traffic, El Paso TX

This is one of my favorite photographs of El Paso. This view taken from the Paisano Dr. overpass just west of El Paso Union Depot captures a sense of the city's diverse and dynamic rail activity, and also offers a glimpse into Mexico. In the foreground, a BNSF switch crew on board a dash-9 locomotive shoves in the clear to allow a southbound BNSF local to enter El Paso yard. In the background to the right, a westbound UP stack train passes on the "Sunset Route". Structures in the distant background and hillsides to the left of the frame are located in Mexico. Photographed March, 2002.
