Amtrak Dash 9-P42B 60 leads the westbound California Zephyr between Rollinsville and Tolland, Colorado, on the D&RGW main (12/3/98).

TT1314

A few minutes later, Union Pacific SD90/43MAC 8063 leads a coal train near the same location. The coal train ran ahead of Amtrak out of Denver, but the two trains passed at Rollins. Had the freight continued leading, Amtrak would have been held for 30 minutes to allow the freight's smoke to clear from Moffat Tunnel (12/3/98).

Just short of the east portal of Moffat Tunnel (and west of Tolland), Burlington Northern SD40-2 8124 leads a BNSF westbound, utilizing trackage rights over Union Pacific's ex-Rio Grande Moffat Line (12/3/98).

TT1316

After pushing the BNSF train to the summit at Moffat Tunnel, Burlington Northern C33-7 5568 cuts off and returns toward Denver. The light helpers are seen just west of Tolland (12/3/98).
