Trains on the CR&E Division

We run a variety of trains on the CR&E, including Amtrak passenger, intermodal, through freight, coal, grain, and local trains. All train numbering follows the Norfolk Southern train numbering system, with the exception of the CSX run-through coal and hopper trains which utilize CSX symbols.

Below is a table listing all trains and information about them.

NS C42 Lewisburg, WV Lewisburg, WV "River Job" working the "Old Main Line" (yard lead) out of Lewisburg. Inbound train comes in at beginning of session, outbound train goes out at end of session.
NS C51 Lewisburg, WV Lewisburg, WV Lewisburg-Springdale turn. Eastbound "return" train originates in west end staging at beginning of operating session. Westbound trip to Springdale originates at Lewisburg Yard toward end of operating session.
NS C52 Lewisburg, WV Lewisburg, WV Lewisburg-Paint Bank turn. Originates at Lewisburg Yard and works east to Caldwell, Glace, Forester, and Paint Bank before returning to Lewisburg Yard. Handles only "non-coal" business.
NS C53 New Castle, VA New Castle, VA New Castle Switcher. Originates and terminates at New Castle. Works east and west of New Castle, between McFalls and Catawba, VA. Cars for C53 are brought to New Castle by through train 352. After C53's work is performed, cars are picked up by eastbound through trains for classification at Roanoke.
NS C80 Lewisburg, WV Roanoke, VA Mainline coal shifter. Works loadout at Caldwell, WV, storage track at Paint Bank, VA. Spots coal for AEP power plant in New Castle, VA. Terminates at Roanoke.
NS C90/C92/C94 Lewisburg, WV Lewisburg, WV Lewisburg-Paint Bank pushers uses on coal and grain trains. May also handle excess tonnage if necessary.
Amtrak 51 Washington, DC Chicago, IL "Cardinal." Operates via CSXT Salem-Shenandoah Jct. Counterpart Amtrak 50 does not run during our "16 hour" session. Station stops at New Castle and Lewisburg.
NS 136 Columbus, OH (CR) Linwood, NC Originates at CR Buckeye Yard (Columbus, OH). Utilizes CR trackage Columbus, OH-Charleston, WV. Setoff and pickup at Lewisburg. Pickup at New Castle.
NS 137 Linwood, NC Columbus, OH (CR) Same routing at 136 above. Setoff and pickup at Lewisburg.
NS 233 Norfolk, VA Landers, IL Intermodal. Utilizes CSX Shenandoah Division between Salem and Shenandoah Jct., VA. Utilizes CR between Charleston, WV and Columbus, OH. Counterpart 234 does not run during our "16 hour" session.
NS 351 Raleigh, NC Lewisburg, WV Utilizes CSX Shenandoah Division between Winston-Salem, NC and Shenandoah Jct., VA. Terminates at Lewisburg.
NS 352 Lewisburg, WV Raleigh, NC Same routing at 351 above. Originates at Lewisburg. Setoff and pickup at New Castle.
NS 358 Bellevue, OH Roanoke, VA Utilizes CR between Charleston, WV and Columbus, OH. Pickup at Lewisburg.
NS 359 Roanoke, VA Bellevue, OH Utilizes CR between Charleston, WV and Columbus, OH. Pickup at Lewisburg.
NS 456 Charleston, WV Hagerstown, MD Via Roanoke, VA. Setoff and pickup at Lewisburg. Pickup at New Castle.
NS 457 Hagerstown, MD Charleston, WV Via Roanoke, VA. Setoff and pickup at Lewisburg.
