Eritrean Railway & Ropeway

Between Asmara and Devil's Doors

After the rail line leaves Asmara during its trek to Massawa, it passes through an area that Jerry Pry knew as the National Forest.  I do not remember the title, but, after exchanging e-mails with Jerry, I remember the area.  I remember seeing the wooded area from the train.  It is in the vicinity of the Crematorium and British Military Cemetery.  I will add a couple of slides about those to familiarize people who know Asmara who may be able to tell me what it was called during my watch...and today.

After you leave the forest, you open up into a valley.  At the end of the valley is Devil's Doors. The above view was taken from Littorina.

As the tracks wind around toward Devil's Doors, it goes around Dorfu mountain which results in the Dorfu Precipice.  I believe that the rail is at the far right below the road.  The road is the white line.
