notes:

• F7s all rated at 1500 hp.
• Boosters all have 3 portholes instead of louvers.
• 1st 306-316 (LAB sets) became 325-335 in Nov. 1952.
• 1st 326-331 retained their horizontal grilles for the most part;
many of these units carried them into yellow bonnet or blue bonnet livery in the early 1970s.
• 37-41(LABC sets), 300-305, 306[1st]/325 (LAB sets) received vertical grilles somewhere around 1951-52.
• for round end window pictures, see Priest, Vol. 1, p 89 (317B formerly 45A), p. 95 (341A)and p.97 (RCE 24 formerly 250A & RCE 27, formerly 306B[2nd]).
• 269-280 have large fuel tank and air pipes on roof; as do 281-class F9s.
• 281-289 F9s have extra set of louvers ahead of front porthole, which is moved aft,  hp rating increased to 1750.

Additional changes in 1970s:

• 233 cabs converted to CF7 by Cleburne Shops from February 1970 to March 1978.
• 1971: 2nd 315-316 made from renumbered 37-class F7s;  300-314 C cabs made from renumbered 16-class F3s and 37-class F7s;  16-class and 37-class boosters used to fill in vacancies due to RCE rebuilds and trade-ins,
  
plus 316-321 (AB sets), for Amtrak lease.
• Upon return from lease, all 300-class units not retired or remanufactured by end of 1974 renumbered into 325-class.
