*Modified* Centennial Rail Cam

[TrainWeb Editor's Note: This is an outdated web page. As you can see below, the captured webcam images are from several years ago. However, you can still view live images from these Olympia / Lacey webcams in Washington State at: https://www.webcamtaxi.com/en/usa/washington/olympia-lacey-live-railcam.html and https://worldcams.tv/united-states/olympia-lacey-centennial-station.]

Centennial Station is the Amtrak stop for Olympia and Lacey Washington.  The station is located on the active Cascades corridor between Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon and is serviced by 8 Amtrak trains daily.  The double track line is owned by Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) and can host up to 20 freight trains per day.  In addition, Union Pacific (UP) has trackage rights on the line and runs an additional 10 to 20 freight trains per day.  Tacoma Rail now operates the local rail service for several branches in the area and runs a local 3-4 days a week by the station. The totals from the 4 railroads can be as many as 40-50 trains per day.  Below are rail cam shots for the last trains to pass.

The Centennial Rail Cam is not a perfect science.  The shaking of an opposing train may set the opposite direction motion detector off.  Thus a southbound train may be captured by the camera facing north or visa-versa.  Also, wind storms cause erratic results as the motion detector is often activated.

[31-Aug-07: I do not have anything to do with the original Centennial Railcam Page (http://home.comcast.net/~olyferris/railcam/centen.htm) nor with the Olympia/Lacey train station web cam images stored at http://images.wsdot.wa.gov/Train/Lacey. As far as I know this web cam is not officially supported by WA DOT.]

[17-Sep-02: I modified the original Centennial Railcam Page (http://home.comcast.net/~olyferris/railcam/centen.htm) to display images at 100% instead of 80% and I rearranged the north and south images to be side by side with new labels.]
