Topeka & Santa Fe Railway is now a part of the vast BNSF system. The
Santa Fe was probably most famous for it's red and silver warbonnet
paint scheme introduced on it's early passenger diesel locomotives
and later on the safety cab diesels starting with the EMD GP60M's,
which are unique to the ATSF, as are the GP60B boosters, and ending
with the ATSF's last purchase of motive power before the merger, the
SD75M's from EMD. The mainline between Chicago and Los Angeles runs
through some very interresting places such as the passes of Raton,
Glorieta and Cajon, the deserts of New Mexico, Arizona and California
and many other places. |
