Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad lives up to it's slogan "Main Line Thru The Rockies" on the route from Denver, Colorado, to Salt Lake City, Utah, where the railroad first climbs the Front Range and then goes thru the Rockies by way of several canyons, Gore, Byers, Glenwood just to name a few. The climb from Denver to the Moffat tunnel is a grueling one with a ruling grade of 2,2 % and the most dense collection of tunnels in the western hemisphere, there are 28 tunnels in 50 miles and the railroad climbs almost 4000 feet to reach the continental divide, 9239 feet above sea level. The scenery is awesome everywhere you go in the Rockies. The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad ceased to exist in 1996 when it was absorbed by the Union Pacific Railroad. There are still a few units out there that wear the DRGW's paint scheme but they are a vanishing breed. To view
