LMX Leasing owns 100 B39-8E locomotives, #8500-8599, built by General Electric. They are leased to BN, now BNSF, under a "power-by-the-hour" contract, the terms of the lease are not as radical as the designation suggests. There is a periodic minimum usage which must be met on a take-or-pay basis, that minimum is set close to the units average milage. The purpose of this lease is to avoid costly shop labor by making arrangements so that the lessor maintains the units. Some of the units have been wrecked but most are still on the road and are easy to spot in their gray paint scheme.
