The Soo Line, or more properly, the Minneapolis St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railway/Railroad, had its' earliest beginnings in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakota Territory in 1883, for the purpose of shipping grain around Chicago and the high prices traffickers brought there. From 1888 until 1960, the MStP&SSM survived on pretty much that same premise. After 1960, the Soo Line Railroad Company was formed by merger, a modern upper Midwest carrier whose primary purpose remained hauling grain. During the modern period Soo went from small carrier to major bridge line between Canada and the United States. After merging the Milwaukee Road in 1986 Soo's future appeared bright, but CP Rail ended Soo's history by purchasing the carrier they had owned in majority for over 100 years in 1990. To view
