The City of Taipei has a developed subway system which total 6 lines and is governed by the TRTC (Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation). The Mucha line was the first of the six lines built and is of the rubber tyred type. The Mucha line consists of 12 stations totaling 10.5 km with only one transfer station, there are plans to extend the Mucha line another 14-15km. However at the moment it is unclear if the new line will use the same rubber tyre technology; this extension will be given the name of "Neihu Line".       Picture courtesy TRTC

"The entire line adopts an elevated structure, starting from Chungshan Junior High School and ending at Taipei Zoo. It is the only medium-capacity line in Taiwan at this moment. Since its opening for service, this line has been lauded widely for its rich recreational value. Besides Taipei Zoo, there are Sincere, Sunrise, and Pacific Sogo Department Stores and Far Eastern Mall along the line. High rising financial, banking and commercial buildings on Fuhsing South/North Road also bestow on it unique views unavailable from other lines."

"The first of the TRTS to go into revenue service was the Mucha Line which began operation on March 28, 1996.Trains run on elevated tracks from the Taipei Zoo in Mucha district, through Wanfang Community and then through tunnels in the Fuchou Hill Region to Hoping East Road, and along Fuhsing N&S Road to Chungshan Middle School. Along the 10.9km* route are 12 stations and a maintenance depot. Meanwhile, an extention from this line called "Neihu Line" will be build  to serve Neihu citizens as well as passengers to and from the Sungshan domestic airport.
