1900) financed by W.S. CULBERTSON and W.T. GRANT mostly.

KENTUCKY AND INDIANA BRIDGE & RAILROAD CO.-BOUGHT in 1900
bankruptcy for 700,000 by SOUTHERN,B&O & MONON RAILROAD

KENTUCKY & INDIANA TERNINAL R.R-renamed by three ower lines
and constructed new bridge 1910-1912.

KENTUCKY & INDIANA TERMINAL RAILROAD

R.R.hawkins-pres. & gen mgr. for 7 months
pending sale to southgern R.R. 12-31-1981 for
30 million dollare ending a 101 year history,
but they will never be forgotten in the
memoriies of older louisvillians.

the author worked for the K&ITRR from june 9.1944 until the sale of december 31, 1981
My title at that time was general agent. the new owner southern railroad named me agent
terminal control and when the southern merged with the norfork and western in early 1892.
i was retained in that position . i retired from norfolk souther railroad january 1,1986
at age 60 and wrote this history in 1991.

w.m. mitchell-mgr./chief engineer 1900-1912 of
the ky.7 IND.BRIDGE & bridge railrood co. this was
the new name given when southern ,b & o . and monon
jointly purchased it out of receivership for
$700,000.00 to build . also in 1910 the railroad
was renamed the kentucky & indiana terminal R.R.

the last president (1964-1982) of the K&IT.R.R. of their
101 year history. this presentation dedicated to him and
the memory of previous presidents, M.MCDONALD,B.H.YOUNG, WM
.MITCHELL,W.E.KNOX, J.H.RIGHTMEYER,W.S.CAMPBELL,AND C.W.ASHBY.

w.s. campbell-mrg./chief engineer 1917-1944.
he reigned 28 years,and was named pres.& gen.
mgr.in 1938. he brought over 200 industries to
the k&i the most notable were dupont,goodrich,

the site of the bridge is interesting. in the early years of america,
those who explored the rivers came to know the rapids and falls on the indiana
side of the ohio river, and the fact that the river dropped 26 feet in less than
two miles.great buffalo herds moving from the prairie lands of northern illinois.
to the salt licks in central kentucky forded the river at a level place below
the falls. it was at this crossing that LaSalle, the intrepid french exployer
is supposed to have passed in 1669. after that came the trappers ,hunters, missionaries,
and pioneer settlers following the same trail. at this site you will find the KITRR bridge.
